The latest 4-door supercar to hit the headlines comes from Bugatti and this iteration doesn’t sway too far from the 1001 HP Bugatti Veyron coupe.

Bugatti has not commented on how much power the Galibier makes but seeing as it sports an 8.0 liter 16 cylinder engine with a twin stage supercharger, power is rumored to be close to the Veyrons 1001.  The Veyron makes due with 16 cylinders but 4 turbochargers instead of the 2-stage blower.

Like most supercars coming out lately, the structure is made of lightweight composites such as carbon fiber and the doors are voluptuously sculpted from light weight aluminum.

Bugatti has been tight lipped about technical data and has yet to mention if this car will be headed for production as of yet, but we will keep you in the loop as we find out more information.

The latest broken embargo brings us the Lamborghini Reventon Roadster that will also debut to the public at Frankfurt very soon.

Lamborghini will only build 20 examples of the 1.7 million dollar fighter jet-inspired roadster.  It will be powered by a 650 horsepower V12 and its “viscious traction” all wheel drive system will help it jet from 0-62 MPH in just 3.2 seconds and top out at 211 MPH.

However, 1.7 million is Bugatti Veyron territory, and at those prices Bugatti reports that they still lose money on each example sold.  I can pretty much confirm that is not the case with the new Reventon.

Mercedes modern interpretation of their iconic 300SL has been unveiled thanks to CarPoint which broke the embargo rules and leaked the info before the cars official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.

Its 6.2L AMG designed V8 pumps out 571 HP / 480 lb-ft and is a revised version of the 6.2L which is currently used in the other AMG vehicles.  It features a new intake manifold, valvetrain geometry, camshaft tweaks and a better exhaust system to help it produce 9% more power than the last version.

The power will most likely be felt too, as this is the first AMG vehicle that takes weight savings into strict consideration.  Albeit not a gleaming lightweight, it does only weigh 3600 pounds, which is nearly 1000 pounds less than a current SL 63 AMG.  These weights are attained by using and aluminum space frame and lots of carbon fiber.

While this car is indeed the replacement for the super-mega-dollar SLR, it will not be as expensive, as MB has quoted a starting price of 177,310 in Europe and should announce US pricing when the car officially debuts in a few days.

Unmistakably, this new super lightweight from Mclaren hearkens back to the nineties  when Mclaren was producing the “F1″ model.  But can we call it retro?

No.  Not really.

The original F1 that was sold until 1998 had an asking price of around $970,000.00 US (and can pull almost double that today).  This more recent example “only” begs for around $265,000.00 US.

This version intends to stand toe-to-toe with its closest priced competitors and beat them in each part of the elaborate engineering process that is involved with creating such a beast.  First things first, weight.  Built entirely of carbon fiber and other composites, the tub alone only weighs 175 pounds.  Carbon ceramic brakes?  Nope, too heavy, so billet steel pieces are used instead.

A Mclaren developed 600 HP / 433 ft-lbs, dry sump, twin turbo 3.8L V8 sits behind the driver and is triggered by a 7-speed dual clutch transmission that will ensure break-neck shifts at the engines 8500 RPM redline.

Mclaren has not released any final performance numbers but they have said it is lighter than the Lamborghini LP560-4 and the Ferrari 458 Italia.

You can bet that this British unit will be featured on the upcoming edition of Top Gears 14th season and I cannot wait for it.
